"The Beasty"

(for a bigger image, click on/ select the picture).................. The "Beasty" ha ha "The Molle load"..ha ha..."The Delfy Sherpa"... "The Tardis"...?!!! Once again designed for and with my mate Ian of;- http://www.1157tactical.com/ a bespoke military and specialist, load carrying, kit Tailor. Great fun to be involved with this project, he asked me to tender my design for a daysack that was also a bergan,.?!.. ok... this is what we came up with....... DUN!
DUNN !
DAAAA !
But lets start at the beginning, It has to be a daysack, ie Small, with the side pockets stowed and the top lip folded in(shown with the detachable lid removed), a smaller "daysack" size is achieved..
Note the hip/waste belt clips neatly out of the way...
Now just by folding the sides back up! and utalising adjustable clips, and duplicate zips! we are now a Bergan. One large carry all sack with a removable any side access lid.
Designed to take all my bivi/feild admin kit plus webbing and helmet...
all in one big bag ( I already keep seperate items in their own light-weight waterproof bags, ie washbag etc) with room at the top, to stand my webbing, for easy access to its contents, with specialy added straps for load security. There is also a large elasticated storm flap/on the lid (there is no snow chute, for ease of access) this cradles and holds any loose item in the top of the bag, say a jacket, and pulls down when closed to act as a storm flap. You will see in all theses photos that the bag is standing upright on its specialy designed flat bottom, stand it in the corner of your tent/etc, for easy access to your stuff, with the option of 2 quick clicks and your ready to move...
The carry straps are still in the "short back" position in this next image*, extra wide to spread the bags load over the shoulders and prevent"cutting in" with extreme loads. (*the straps will adjust up to a long back configurtation)
The suface next to my back is well padded and has a cooling indent, mid way, to allow some air circulation..
Here you can see the duplicate zips and clips that enable the multi use, big or small functions...( note also the larger spacing between the two shoulder strap mounting points..how I like it, but not every bodys cup of tea...
Ha Ha all this and I still haven't used my 2 integral side/rocket pouches, they are still neatly stowed away, also notice, just below the lid, a velcro covered bladder tube port (1 on either side, bladder stowed internally in seperate pocket. The "molle" comes around onto the sides of the bergan, where the rocket pouches would be, to enable the attachment of additional pouches in their place. I also wanted "Molle" on the 2 hip pads/belt tabs,( again extra wide to spread the load) for the attachment of a water bottle/utility pouch, on one side, and even ammo pouches on the other, if I am simply hoofing into a location, comfortably carring my webbing in the bag but remaining functional,,!
But of course I still have 2 side/rocket pouches to use, rocket pouches specified to be larger than uk issue. Pouches that are deep enough to carry say, an extra rifle/weapon system...
( please excuse the plastic replica rifle, it is life size, and I dont have to have any "parts there of" lying around my person, or in my studio ha ha). But it is easily concealed....
Side/rocket pouches big enough, to carry (in one of) all my CBRN kit (the old havasack, dont know about the new one yet, but there's plenty 'o' "molly" room if it doesn't)...or any last minuite rations issue, quickly stowable, undecantered!
With the addition of many, many, attachment points the list of extras possible is only limited by the imagination...!.. for instance, a simple carry handle...
With tape sewn to every shape defining edge, as requested, camouflage and concealment are no problem...
All in All "The Beast" has a massive litreage, the actaul figure escapes me at the moment but its well over 100L, she's a wide-mouthed frog!
In the last picture you can see the two light weight struts that can help keep the bergan rigid, and helps keep the weight placed high and over the shoulders, not used by everyone...
Poles sit criss-cross, Short poles placed blunt/ female end in the tape at the bottom, long poles placed pointy/ male end up, into the pockets, then each pole joined/mated together in the middle,a nice solid close fit..situated in the rear seperator pocket( good place for bladder)..
Right...well..I had the cheek to call it... "The Tardis"...well..thats because even though you have seen it go from a day sack to a full size bergan and beyond, it gets even bigger still, thanks to the floating lid, top strength materials and extra width load spreading shoulder and hip contact points...you can easily carry...say a "biffed" Mucca's bergan, or even the imfamous issued black carry all...
The reason I thought about calling it the "DELFY SHERPA" ha ha
And of course, ( despite being known as " FRANKEN-MOLLE" through out construction, because we knew we had created a monster) I did earlier call it.... The "MOLLE-LOAD"...and from this view you can see why..!
(you can easily fit 14 yes one, four, standard molle utility pouches on the back there, count the spaces 14). check out some more KIT at;- http://www.1157tactical.com/
